A Message from Jeff

“I’ll be a different kind of governor for Florida. One who is fearless in fighting for families. And I won’t owe any favors to the special interests who have been using their money to get their way.

It’s time we put everyday Floridians first. When I’m elected governor, those are the people who will be front and center. And they are the ones I’ll think about when it comes time to make the hard decisions.”

As the population of Florida continues to grow, so does the negative impact on the local environment. Pollution is one of the most pressing issues that the government of Florida is attempting to address. In the last few years, the Florida government has taken a variety of steps to combat pollution and protect the environment. The state has implemented a number of initiatives, including the Florida Forever Act, which provides funding for land conservation projects, and the Florida Springs Initiative, which aims to restore and protect the state’s iconic springs.

The state of FL has also implemented several regulations to reduce air pollution. For example, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has set limits on the amount of certain pollutants that can be emitted into the air. Additionally, Florida has implemented energy efficiency standards and incentives to encourage the use of renewable energy sources, like solar and wind power. Florida has also taken steps to address water pollution. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has initiated programs to help reduce runoff from agricultural and urban sources, while also promoting the use of alternative water sources, such as rainwater harvesting and desalination. Additionally, the state has encouraged the use of best waste management practices to reduce water pollution.

When I am Governor, I will work tirelessly with experts like the team at the Lastinger Center to ensure Florida’s public schools are doing everything they can to give every child the chance to succeed! I will also help protect the environment as shown with Panama City dumpster rental initiatives, better recycling programs and a reduction in the number of landfills in the state of Florida.

Protecting the environment in Florida is my top priority, providing residents with a clean, green, pollution-free state. My program includes implementing better junk disposal service and recycling facilities, improving awareness about sustainability and waste reduction. Let's all fight for a better future for our chilren!

What is eco design in Florida

Sustainability in Florida is an umbrella term that encompasses many aspects of how we live and act in the world. More than just a buzzword, it is a way of thinking about how our actions today can have lasting effects tomorrow. In the design industry, this shift toward creating sustainable products is known as green design or sustainable design. And this doesn’t just apply to eco-friendly products, but everything from fashion to furniture to architecture – anything with visual appeal and functionality.

Reduce waste in the production process

The first step in designing a sustainable product in Florida is to minimize the impact of production. This includes using fewer resources in the first place. Designers can reduce the impact of producing textiles, paper, and other materials by choosing sustainable materials that don't require as much energy or resources to manufacture. Examples of sustainable materials include recycled paper, recycled fabrics, hemp, recycled plastic, soy-based fabrics, and biodegradable plastics. Designers can also use fewer resources in the production process by being creative in their designs and using fewer materials to make each product. Find ways to reduce the amount of fabric used in a garment. Reduce the amount of paper used in packaging. using lightweight materials wherever possible.

Use renewable, recyclable and non-toxic materials

Once you've minimized waste in the production process, it's time to think about materials. The second step in sustainable design is choosing materials that have a low environmental impact and can be recycled or reused. Designers can use renewable materials, like hemp and bamboo, which can be harvested sustainably without harming the environment. They can also use recyclable materials like metals, paper and plastic, as well as biodegradable materials like paper and fabrics made from soy. Designers can also choose non-toxic materials that do not pollute the environment or the people who use them. These include non-toxic inks, dyes, paints and adhesives. To make the product as eco-friendly as possible, designers can choose recycled materials and non-toxic materials that can be recycled.

Improve the manufacturer's environmental practices

The third part of designing for sustainability is asking manufacturers in Florida about their environmental practices. Does the factory use renewable energy? Do workers receive a decent wage? How are workers treated? How is waste disposed of? If manufacturers are already using sustainable materials and practices, then their products are already more sustainable than others. But if this is not the case, designers can work with manufacturers to improve their environmental practices, for example by following the advice and recommendations given on this site. It can be as simple as asking them about the materials and methods they use, then bringing those practices into compliance. Designers can also ask if manufacturers are transparent about their practices and if they are willing to open their books to show how they work. This will let you know if the manufacturer is trustworthy and committed to the same sustainability goals as you.

Think beyond the product itself

All of these examples are primarily focused on the product itself. But sustainability is about more than just the design and materials of a single product. It also concerns distribution and transport. How does the product get from manufacturer to consumer? How is it packaged for shipping? What are the byproducts of this process? Designers can also consider value beyond their products. Products designed for sustainability can have a positive effect beyond the environment. They can inspire social change and human development, and be used as tools to bring about real change in people's lives. Designers can help make sustainable products accessible to everyone. They can also use their work to inspire people to make changes in their own lives. For example, a designer who creates a sustainable clothing line could also publish an article explaining how people can make changes in their own lives, such as reducing their carbon footprint.

Designing sustainable products in Florida is a challenge, but also a source of satisfaction. This involves asking a lot of questions and making a lot of compromises. But the end result is a product that has a positive impact on the world. Designers can make sustainable products accessible to everyone by choosing affordable materials. They can also make a durable product even more sustainable by designing it to be easier to repair, reuse or recycle.

Florida waste management certification

Any producer, importer or seller of an industrial product or any service provider whose activity is covered by a standard can obtain certification or the right to use a collective certification mark when it exists. If there is no standard, a group of manufacturers or service providers can initiate a collective approach at the level of a professional organization so that a request is submitted by it to an existing certification body. An approach of individual origin, if it does not correspond to a collective need, has little chance of succeeding to the extent that the standards must be developed on a collective and consensual basis.

Example of a certification reference

The Florida Recyclers Association has set up a service certification intended for recycling companies for the collection, recovery and treatment of waste, mainly industrial. The certification framework brings together quality, environment and safety aspects and was validated by a certification committee made up of recycling professionals, their customers, the administrations concerned and experts in quality, environment and safety. The service commitment of the certified recycling company concerns:

  • control of its organization
  • control of its operations from the identification of suppliers and customers to the delivery of materials
  • protection and respect for its environment
  • taking into account the hygiene and safety of its staff and local residents

References for a quality management system

In 1987, ISO published the first international quality management system (QMS) standards. The core of the ISO 9000 series of standards are standards providing quality assurance models and guides for developing and implementing a quality management system. In order to adapt to new realities, the ISO 9000 series standards are regularly reviewed and revised, with 4 important standards of the series:

  • ISO 9000: 2000 / Quality management systems: Essential principles and vocabulary. This standard aims to explain the main terms and principles attached to the standard.
  • ISO 9001: 2000 / Quality management systems: Requirements. This is the only standard that can be registered.
  • ISO 9004: 2000 / Quality management systems: Guidelines for improving performance. This standard provides avenues for continuous improvement in order to increase the productivity and efficiency of the organization
  • ISO 9011: 2000 / Guidelines for audits and environment (future standard).

Standards for an environmental management system

The international organization for standards has published the ISO 14000 series of standards relating to the requirements for an “environmental management system”. These standards seek to reconcile voluntary approach and continuous improvement. The ISO 14000 series standards make it easier for the company to comply with regulations and achieve better environmental performance. They are intended to be a general management guide and emphasize means, without providing specific requirements as to results.

The company's organizational approach is based on two main principles: the commitment to a policy and the establishment of a self-improving system to deploy this policy. The integration of an environmental dimension into the company's strategy is essentially based on the principles of a continuous improvement loop. The ISO 14001 standard provides system-wide requirements that can be used for third-party certification or self-declaration. In addition to these requirements, explanations appear in the form of an informative annex. The ISO 14004 standard, not certifiable by construction, provides practical elements in the form of examples and advice in order to facilitate the implementation of the environmental management system.

These two standards constitute benchmarks for internal or external audits (third-party certification). Eco-audit is the name given to the Environmental Management and Audit System. The Eco-audit is not an environmental management standard. This is a new approach in Florida created to encourage organizations of all sizes and from all sectors to engage in a voluntary process of continuous improvement of their environmental performance. The Eco-audit rules are established by state regulations. Its objectives are to promote good environmental management of industrial sites and to establish active communication with the public.
